"The Head's Herald" Summer Edition ~ June!

By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing; so, on the seventh day, he rested from all his work.

~ Genesis 2:2

Happy Summer! I hope your family has enjoyed almost a month’s worth of resting and relaxation. It is hard to believe that July is upon us… The old adage “time flies” is even truer over the summer, isn’t it?! I want to touch base on a few things occurring here at St. Joe’s, since open communication is essential to me. So, please settle in for a brief edition of The Head’s Herald. :-)

Before I begin with “new business”, I must reflect on the beautiful Graduation ceremonies we celebrated with our Eighth Grade and Kindergarten students. Tears flowed, laughs were heard, and memories were made as we said goodbye to our older graduates and welcomed our little graduates to First Grade! Many thanks to those who helped coordinate, set-up, and decorate for both events; everything was amazing!

I must give a special shout out to Jen Pisciotto who earned 2016-2017’s Volunteer of the Year award! Jen was seen on campus a lot throughout the year… She not only is the Treasurer of our Parent Organization, but she also sacrificed her time to drive on field trips, to help students shop at Santa’s Workshop, to assist with Auction set-up, and—above all—to tirelessly and lovingly make our new playground a reality. Saying “thank you” doesn’t even begin to cover how appreciative I am for Jen’s hard work and dedication!

Speaking of the new playground, it has officially been ordered! For updates on construction, pictures of the progress, and information on official ribbon cutting ceremonies, stay tuned to future issues of The Head’s Herald. We are very excited!

In the coming weeks, an updated Dress Code will be sent via e-mail and will be posted on our website. Nothing substantial is changing; in fact, we are striving to make it a little less nit-picky. We want our students to represent our school well in their uniforms—with the added touch of their individual personalities. Stay tuned!

As you know, ERB results are in. If you’d like to schedule a meeting to review your child(ren)’s scores, please send me an e-mail. I’ve met with quite a few parents thus far, and I look forward to touching base with more as the summer continues.

With the summer comes summer maintenance, and we are blessed to have Mr. Nevad! As families and faculty/staff members enjoy rest and time away, Mr. Nevad continues to work on maintaining this beautiful campus. Lightbulbs need to be replaced, walls need to be repainted or touched up, things need to be fixed, and new supplies need to be built… Thankfully, Mr. Nevad does all of the above with a smile! We look forward to showing how lovely everything looks at the beginning of the new year.

Construction on our new, state-of-the-art SmartLab will begin in the coming weeks. The iMacs and new chairs have been ordered, and the sliding glass door connecting it to the Computer Lab will be installed soon. Once again, stay tuned to future issues to keep abreast on all things SmartLab!

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns over the summer, please reach out to the Office and/or to me directly. The Office’s summer hours are 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesdays through Thursdays. With that being said, all of us in the Office (Mary, Rhiannon, Janet, Kelly, and me) are available via e-mail, so please don’t hesitate to contact us.

With gratitude and appreciation,
Kyle

STREAM Spotlight

Mr. Pat Coyle has created an amazing summer camp opportunity for children: Whispering Pines Day Camp! With the help of Ms. Jane Speyer, Miss Maha, Counselors, and Counselors-in-Training (CITs), all campers are having a blast and learning a lot! What I personally love about this camp is the fact that it coincides with our new STREAM philosophy perfectly. Students are participating in hands-on, collaborative learning on a daily basis—building simple machines, making beautiful art projects, learning songs and choreography, creating and maintaining websites, and seeing the value of teamwork as they play sports and games.

If you’re interested in seeing this camp in action, please “like” them on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Whisperingpinesdaycamp/) and “follow” them on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/whispering_pines_day_camp/). For more information, call Mr. Coyle directly at (561) 396-6608. And, you’re in luck… There are two more sessions: July 10th through July 21st and July 24th through August 4th. Sign up ASAP; you won’t regret it! As one camper said recently, “This is the best camp I’ve ever been to!”
