Another month of school is coming to a close, and what an exciting one it’s been! From the Middle School Retreats finally occurring to preparing for (and thankfully not being too affected by) Hurricane Matthew, it’s been quite a ride. Thankfully, we have this wonderful place to gather each day to support one another in every way.
The Middle School Retreats were resounding successes! Students enjoyed working together in a variety of ways over three days. They bonded, learned more about one another, and grew together as cohesive units. And, in all honesty, the October dates worked well across the board. With cooler weather and more time to plan and to get acclimated to the school year, this time of year may become the new tradition!
Our Jaguar sports teams ended their Football and Volleyball seasons and are eagerly anticipating Soccer (Boys) and Basketball (Girls). Please try to attend as many games as you can to cheer on our student athletes! Schedules for both teams are posted on our website at http://www.sjsonline.org/sports-schedules/.
The Early Childhood Academy is celebrating diversity with its first annual International Week this Wednesday through Friday. Students will sample foods from all over the world and learn about different cultures. Also, at the ECA this week, the annual Class Pumpkin Silent Auction kicks off today! Starting this morning at 7:00 AM and ending on Friday at 11:00 AM, bids can be placed on beautiful pumpkins decorated by each class. All proceeds go to the Jaguar Fund. Check out our Facebook page to see pictures of each pumpkin, or drop by the ECA to take a look in person.
Our Dismissal procedures are becoming more solidified, and I thank you for your patience, feedback, and assistance. Please keep in mind that Grades One through Eight do not exit their classrooms until the final bell rings at 3:10 PM. Therefore, it’s better to arrive at 3:05 or later, rather than wait in line for an extended period of time.
If you haven’t heard already, one of my goals is to install a new playground east of the Jones Athletic Field for Grades One and up to use. We have been approved to begin the planning process! If you are interested in serving on a committee to gather prices and other information, please let me know. I’d love to have an estimate as soon as we can in order to adequately plan for fundraising and/or including it in this year’s Call to the Heart at the Auction.
Thank you very much to those who have graciously filled the Whole Foods-donated Food for Families bags with non-perishable items for needy families. This new way of collecting food has been extremely successful, and it looks like there’s no sign of slowing down! This initiative officially ends on November 17th, so please return your full bag soon. If you want to receive a nice trick-or-treat bag for your child(ren) to use at Trunk or Treat or for Halloween, bring your full bags by Friday or at the event on Friday at 5:00.
Trunk or Treat is this Friday! If you would like to reserve a “plot” for $35 or two for $50, please call Kelly DuBois at (561) 732-2045. We are anticipating a spook-tacular event, complete with a Halloween-themed Bake-Off! To enter, it costs $10; to indulge in three treats, it’s $5. Start putting those fun Pinterest recipes to the test!
Words cannot express how grateful I am to the many generous contributions we’ve received for this year’s Jaguar Fund. Your gifts will benefit the lives of all students at Saint Joseph’s, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support of our wonderful school. We are striving to reach 100% from all of our wonderful families, so please donate soon—no amount is too small.
Speaking of Jaguar Fund, a wonderful opportunity was recently presented to me. HypeSites, a Delray Beach-based website and digital marketing company co-owned by a St. Joe’s family, has offered to donate 10% of the revenue generated by new clients who are SJES friends, extended family, alumni, and donors to the Jaguar Fund—from now until the end of the school year! When you contact owners Chris Smith and Olivia Povedano, be sure to mention that you are a part of the Saint Joseph’s Episcopal School extended family. You can reach them at (561) 901-5922 or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Learn more about the donation program at https://hypesites.com/sjes/. It is a win-win situation for everyone: You get a great website and a marketing program that delivers measurable positive returns, and 10% of your investment is donated to the Jaguar Fund! Even if you don’t own a business, refer your family and friends!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to the Office, to teachers, to Division Heads, and/or to me directly. The relationship between home and school is essential to all of us at St. Joe’s!
