Alumni Testimonials

I can’t think of a better place where I could have attended elementary and middle school. During my tenure at Saint Joseph’s, my mind, spirit, and overall affect were cultivated and refined to represent the best person I could be. The religious aspect of Saint Joseph’s taught me to care for those around me, how to treat them the way that I would like to be treated myself, and the personal benefits of doing so. It is by this I strive to live my life even to this day, and Saint Joseph’s helped to instill the value and importance treating those around me with respect and equality. Academically, Saint Joseph’s gave me the upper hand in all of my freshman classes. Upon entering the IB program at Atlantic Community High School, I had essentially already learned all of the material that my high school was teaching to incoming 9th grade students. Saint Joseph’s also instilled leadership qualities in me that I would have otherwise not had the opportunity to learn until much later in life. The familiar nature of Saint Joseph’s helped me to establish lifelong friendships, and was the perfect environment for learning social skills necessary to progress in life as a contributing member of society. I would trade nothing for the enchanting experience that Saint Joseph’s provided me with that I remember so fondly.

Gary and DeDe Mahler are parents of alumnae Amy (Class of 2003) and Kacey (Class of 2005).  Both daughters attended Saint Joseph’s from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade.  Today, Amy is a freshman at Boston University, and Kacey is a Junior at Park Vista High School in the IT magnet program.

DeDe and Gary were the consummate volunteers at Saint Joseph’s during their years here.  They helped with the annual auction; drove students to off-campus activities; assisted with the softball team; led Girl Scout troops, and organized efforts to raise money for the 2003 Eighth Grade trip to Boston.   Each year, they filled the teachers’ wish list requests and they contributed generously to building our athletic fields.

Since 1996, the Mahlers have lived in Delray Dunes where they remain very active. DeDe is a Registered Nurse and works at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Gary manages real estate and personal finances.

They entrusted Saint Joseph's to offer a caring, Christian environment that addresses much more than the academic needs of the student. “The faculty and administration of the school work to the best of their ability to provide a nurturing and safe environment for its students,” DeDe said. “Our daughters had terrific teachers who helped them develop a sense of respect for education.  Educators cannot be underestimated.  Saint Joseph’s spiritual education is something our daughters will benefit from all of their lives. I have always felt the greater community should know about the accomplishments of Saint Joseph’s students, both past and present.”
